Hey, thanks for stopping by! If you'd like to know a little something
about me and my work, you're in the right place. I studied
art at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa which culminated in an apprenticeship to an artist named Ellen Eddy
in Chicago, Illinois. Ellen taught me 'free-motion sewing', a technique that allows you to draw with thread. Ellen's guidance helped me develop the type
of art that I make now. If you would like to see some of her quilts, check out her book Thread
Magic, or for those of you who are looking for instant
gratification, take a look at her website: http://www.ellenanneeddy.com/
I love the tradition of quilting within women's history, and
the idea that a quilt can tell a story. I've seen quilts made of personal
fabrics such as favorite t-shirts or clothing from childhood. I have
made quilts, hope chests, and paintings for friends and family to
commemorate special events such as birthdays, weddings and the birth
of children. In my artwork, I combine my love of painting
and sewing. My pieces include several media: acrylic, oils, fabric,
photograph scraps, and thread. You may see traditional
and non-traditional quilt blocks as the foundation for the design
of some pieces. I also like to incorporate stitch designs from traditional
Japanese quilting. I hope you enjoy my creations. Send
me an email if you have any questions about my work, I'd love to hear
from you! |
